Fundraiser Info + Updates

Journal Entry: Sun Jan 16, 2011, 8:55 PM
FUNDRAISER OVER

This fundraiser is now OVER. You can see the final total here

Many thanks to everyone who helped, and donated both stock and money for the cause. You are all awesome in every way!

Fundraiser Info

Figured it was time to neaten this journal up, the info was all over the place!

The what and why. The last week has seen Australia suffer its worst natural disaster in history. 75% of Queensland, parts of N.S.W and Vic, and even towns in Tasmania got washed away with horrible floods. To give you some idea of the landmass we're talking about: Queensland is Australia's second largest state measuring more than 1.72 million square kilometers, 25% of Australia's land mass, which is four times the size of Japan, nearly six times the size of the UK and more than twice the size of Texas in the US.

The death toll stands at 18 for the moment. People are still missing. Many thousands of homes and businesses have been wiped out, left in a muddy ruin.

Stock For Sale

The following stock packs have been generously offered as a part of the fundraiser. By clicking on the thumbnails you will see pack prices, and a better idea of the files in each pack. Any payments for packs, Or just donations because you want to, can be made to my paypal which is myshellecole@gmail.com

Just like to remind people Im in Aus, so my timezones will differ from yours. Im also currently being swamped with notes and emails about this, so if 24 hours have past and I have not gotten back to you, poke me again, its possible Ive overlooked a note somewhere

If you wish to help

There are many ways you can help. You can do a journal, let people know about the stock packs for sale. You could purchase a pack yourself, or donate a pack.

If you want to donate a stock pack:

:bulletred: Donate a pack: Collect the money from sales yourself and then send the money to my paypal.

:bulletred: Donate a pack: Send your files directly to ME via email, Ill upload the preview, deal with collection of money AND send the packs (this is for people who do not have the time to sort and email files) (Also note, the pack preview WILL be deleted after this fundraiser is over, I have no desire to keep your images, after all they belong to you :D )

The email for the 3rd option, and the paypal address you need is myshellecole@gmail.com

Please add a link to this journal in the pack description. As well as the price you wish to charge for your pack!

Silent Auctions!

Keep an eye on this space during the week for some extra awesome handmade by shell goodies that will be auctioned off!

The goal.

Current Total: $191.64

I hope to raise $500 for the Queensland flood appeal. (details here: [link] If you scroll down that page, you can see one of the "In person" drop of points listed is Coles. This is where I will be taking all money raised, and will be photographing both the handover of the funds AND the receipt so you guys can see it also.)

It's lovely to see that you've done this :D My workplace went underwater, but my home is still standing and dry, so I was incredibly lucky. Many more people lost so much more. :( I've donated to the flood appeal a few times already, too. We Aussies are built tough, it'll take more than this to knock us down! :w00t:

I've posted a blog in ManStock [link] We have way more artist members than we do stock artist contributors, so hopefully it will reach an audience that uses stock and wants to help by buying packs!

Whilst I understand the sentiment, it is better to encourage people to be making donations to the official Queensland Floods Appeal at [link]

Having money sent to your personal PayPal account sounds kind of dodgy. What guarantee do people have that you will indeed donate this money to the official appeal? Why not set up something that goes direct?

I don't mean to sound cynical, but if you go through PayPal, you can't give out tax receipts (donations to charities are tax refundable in Australia).

Please be careful offering to take unofficial donations - you might get yourself in trouble.

Im pretty sure with Myshelle being a Gallery moderator, she can be trusted and wouldnt rip anyone off in anyway! The way this has been set up is so everyone benefits, and more people are inclined to make a donation, rather than someone half way around the world saying "well, what do I get outta it?". Its something MOST people are interested and MOST people havent second guessed her intentions. I see you're from Australia, maybe you should actually give a shit about raising money rather than attacking anyone trying to do their best to help!

I'm glad the organiser is considered trustworthy here.

I do "give a shit". I've donated funds myself and encouraged friends and family to do the same - to both the official appeal and to the Queensland RSPCA (often the animal tragedy is overlooked in these sorts of disasters).

While I understand you want to be careful, I have no intentions at all in ripping people off. Id have thought after being a long standing member most people would get that. If people want to make a donation to the site itself they are more then welcome to do so, what Im doing here is selling stock packs and donating the money. I cant exactly sell anything without the exchange of cash. People across Australia are doing much the same, from bake sales to garage sales to guess the lollies in the jar. If people are really going to get upset they didnt get a receipt for 2 dollars to claim back on tax, then thats a bit sad. It shouldn't be about what you can get back.

For the record, I dont have a flipping clue how to set anything up direct, it took me long enough to get this started and frankly Im very offended you needed to write a big disappointing comment on my journal rather then noting me with your concerns. Try and do something good and there's always got to be someone that makes you feel like its just a worthless venture, so thanks.

By saying "set something up direct" I simply meant to provide links to the official campaigns. You could do that here on your journal to add weight to your own campaign.
